The regular meeting of the Oswego Public Library Board was called to order by president Nancy Korinek
at 5:46 on February 16, 2021. Other board members in attendance were Carol McLeod, Susan Johnson,
Paula Kern(via phone), Jan Owens, Library director, Heather Duke, and secretary Kristin Redburn.
Susan moved that we approve the minutes of the previous meeting and the special board meeting.
Motion seconded and carried.
Library director, Heather Duke, reported that The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is experiencing slow
sign ups due to the postal service. Due to weather conditions, the courier for SEK is running behind.
Donations left at the library for Friends of the Library have been around $2,750.
Heather would like to order a new cabinet to store DVDs and CDs. Jan moved Heather be authorized up
to $400 for a cabinet and hardware for a chain barrier limiting patron access to the area behind the
librarian’s desk. Motion was seconded and carried.
The Treasurer’s report was presented by Paula. She reports that we are below budget on expenses and
above the budget on income for the year 2020. . Susan moved we approve the report. The motion was
seconded and carried.
Bids were read for a new Air-conditioning unit for the basement. Always Cozy submitted a bid of
$5,325.06 and submitted a bid of $3,998. Jan moved we award the bid to Commercial & Residential
Services, with an upgrade to a 15/16 Seer rating with a total cost of $4537. Motion was seconded and
carried.
Kris reported that Nancy and Rod Redburn had trimmed the knockout roses in the front of the library.
Nancy has been unable to contact an iron worker about possibilities for the railing on the north entrance.
She will attempt to contact him in person at his shop.
Nancy proposed that we pour a new concrete pad at the outside west entrance to the library to aid with
control of water flow. Paula moved we investigate the costs involved. Motion was seconded and passed.
Regular meetings were set for the year: February 16, May 11, August 10, November 9, and February 8,
2022.
It was decided to have a special meeting in April to elect new officers, since Nancy and Paula will be
moving off the board on April 30.
Jan expressed a concern as to library policies and where they might be found, especially in regards to
hiring. Nancy will get a trustee manual to her.
Susan moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded and carried. The meeting was adjourned at 6:42.
Purchase of an Amana refrigerator for the basement at a cost of $749.98 was approved via email.
